Three New Year’s party looks – from the back of my closet

Tomorrow is New Year’s Eve and I still haven’t decided what I’m doing. However, being the obsessive that I am, I have an outfit for any plan which might come my way: glamorous dinner, clubbing, or a house party with friends.

If you’re wondering whether I went mad and shopped for three outfits that I might not wear, don’t worry. I only shopped in my closet!

Yes you read it right. Looking at my bursting closet I noticed that I had lots of trendy (and some still unworn) clothes that I forget about sometimes. Of course I love to shop for new things but I made an effort this time instead of embracing the shopaholic in me, to open my wardrobe and put together 3 potential outfits for tomorrow night - without spending a penny.

Despite not knowing what the plan is, I know I want to wear one of two current party trends which I’ve been swooning over this season: sequins or jumpsuits. I think it’s always easier when you have at least one idea of what you want either style-wise or colour… anything that will make your dig into those piles of clothes easier and more fun!

So if you’re stuck on outfit idea, instead of racing to the shops at the last minute and ending up with something less than fabulous, look inside your closet and you might be pleasantly surprised with what you might come out with!

Here is what I got …

Look 1: Glamorous night out

I bought this Reiss dress a year ago from London for a close friend’s wedding, and since then I’ve been itching to wear it again! This silk red number has beautiful corset detail and is very flattering. Teaming it with my versatile black Very Prive Loubies, Accessorize star-shaped clutch and Topshop dangly earrings and cuff completes the look! This outfit is fun and sexy yet dressy at the same time, in case I get a last minute invite to a hot party or my hubby surprises me to a romantic new year’s dinner (wink ;-))!

Look 2: outdoors party or clubbing

For clubbing, sequins are the hottest trend for this season! Up until last summer, I had a midnight blue sequin dress but I sold it thinking that it wasn’t going be in fashion for long. Judging by every shop window from designer to high street; that was a big mistake! However I retained possession of this Topshop skirt which I bought a couple of years ago in a sale and have hardly ever worn. I would keep the rest of the look simple by teaming it with a silky black top, my sexy bondage Zara heels and my Arabic ‘Beirut’ embroided purse from Lebanese label Sarah’s Bag to remind me of home. Smokey eyes, Topshop cuff and big feathery earrings will complete the look and I’m ready to partyyyyy!

Look 3: Countdown at a friend’s house party

I’m sure I could turn up in shorts and t-shirt for this but since it is NYE, I’d take the excuse to dress up ;-) Not over-dress of course, so I would choose this Topshop cotton jumpsuit which is very comfy and stylish, belt it with a purple silk sash from a local shop back home and team it with my favourite but not-so-comfy Brian Atwood heels (I can sit down no?). The sequin Union Jack clutch that I’d bought ages ago from Accessorize and some colourful accessories will add even more fun! This look checks all my favourite trends boxes: colour-blocking, sequins and jumpsuit!

But of course the best accessory to go with all of these 3 outfits which no amount of money can buy - is a big smile to usher in the new year! Happy 2012 everyone!!!
